Books aren't just commodities

That’s the kind of quick wit you get at your local independent bookstore, along with deep knowledge about nearly every book in the universe. And if they don’t know about it, they’ll find out about it lickety cut!*

I swear I didn't make up "cachinnation"

Because I love humor and never miss an opportunity to laugh, I have vowed more than once to keep a record of how many times a day I giggle, chortle, guffaw, chuckle, chortle, titter, snigger, or howl.

A Jolly Murder at Christmas

This time of year, true mystery lovers find nothing more wonderful than snatching a few moments in the midst of the chaos of the season and devouring an intriguing who-done-it, wrapped in a Christmas setting, and tied up with an alluring, jaw-dropping holiday bow. Two of my Lord and Lady Crosswick Mysteries finish or start with Christmas and, I say with all modesty, people love that element.

It's a whole new world

It’s about to be the busiest time of year, so why wouldn’t I decide to launch a TikTok feed and a YouTube Channel? When I learned last week that grandfluencers—“mature influencers”—are a growing social media wave, I was determined to find out more about this mind-blowing phenomenon…and boy, howdy!

It's the coziest time of the year

Throughout the year, each new month honors many different industries, people, things, concepts—if you can think of something, it’s no doubt honored during one of our twelve months. In addition to October being noted for Halloween, it also celebrates National Chess Day, National Pasta Day, National Walk to School Day, and … drumroll, please … National Cookie Month. The store owner introduces them to the waiting audience, then invites the audience to ask questions. To no one’s surprise, the first question is, “Why are you all wearing coats when it’s over 80 degrees?” The authors respond, “We’re always cold because we’re surrounded by drafts.”

Let's see some shelfies!

As I was tucking James, by Percival Everett (a book both my husband and I just finished and highly recommend) into a free-ish spot on a shelf in our library/dining room, it struck me what I wanted to write about in this month’s newsletter: where people keep their books.

The Ghost of Charlotte Chaubert

I trust you all made it through the Ides of March unscathed. With that notorious date behind us, I want to talk about ghosts—specifically Charlotte Chaubert, one of the House of Crosswick’s Grande Dames.

When you finish writing a book, that’s no time to relax!

Last week, I was having a drink with a friend, celebrating the launch of Vengeance at the Vineyard, and he said, “You must be so relieved to have your third book out. Now you can just relax.” He obviously forgot who he was talking to.

‘Tis the Season…

Holey moley, how did it get so late so fast? Who out there isn’t busy, busy, busy? Might I suggest adopting a Lord and Lady Crosswick tradition? Open something bubby, pour it into your favorite crystal flute (or chipped coffee cup) and take a moment to enjoy the beauty amid the chaos.
